Programme Goals
The programme aims to provide a capability of analysis and discernment in the service of the New Evangelisation.
The contemporary world presents new challenges
The crisis of our times
«The split between the Gospel and culture is without a doubt the drama of our time…»
Paul VI, Evangelii Nuntiandi 20.
The Master in Theology of Evangelisation proposes a response to this challenge
It provides the foundations for theological reflection on evangelisation and insures a solid basis for discerning the positive action
It analyses the new context of evangelisation and the relationship between faith on the one hand and sociology, culture, psychology and political science on the other.
It allows students to integrate their own life and pastoral experience in their study
It is enriched by the missionary experience of many of the teachers, members of the Emmanuel Community
Rome
A unique encounter with the Church
The year of residency is marked by major events of Church life (Consistories, canonisations, synods etc)
Students from across the world study in the city: so many opportunities for enriching encounters
Rome is marked by the testimony of many saints through the ages, who are still venerated here.
The Pontifical Lateran University
The University of the Diocese of Rome, the Lateran depends directly on the Holy Father who calls it “The Pope’s own university”.
Four thousand students from one hundred countries study at the Lateran. They are spread across four faculties (Philosophy, Theology, Canon Law, Civil Law) and three specialised institutes (Utriusque Iuris Institute, Redemptor Hominis Pastoral Institute, John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family)
The faculties include teachers from new ecclesial realities (Opus Dei, Communion and Liberation, Emmanuel Community…).
All the daily needs of students are provided on campus: a large library is open from 8.00a n until 7.00 pm, a café and dining hall, computer rooms with on-line access to major roman university library catalogues.
The chapel, at the heart of the University’s life, gives students possibilities for personal prayer and for daily mass.
The Pontifical Pastoral Institute Redemptor Hominis
« For the last thirty years a ‘pastoral institute’ has existed in this University, with a note-worthy programme whose goal is to bring the light and the taste of the Gospel into the many contexts of social life. »
Jean-Paul II, allocution at the Lateran University, November 10 th 1987
The Institute proposes a wide range of specialised study programmes: Theology of Evangelisation, Christian Education and Catechesis, Social Teaching of the Church, Theology of Communication.

Inscription requisit
The Master is open to anyone having a degree equivalent to three years of post-secondary studies. If this is not the case, it is still possible to sit a the expert diploma or the annual diploma. The university asks that the students know Italian and two languages other than their mother tongue. This needs to be attested to by an official document (end of secondary studies grades, or university) or shown in an exam within the university. This consists reading and directly translating a text. The classes are normally in Italian. The exam will verify that students are able to understand courses in Italian. Should the student fail the exam, a compulsory course in Italian will be attended in the University with 100 hours of class between October and December. The university also gives foreign language classes (French, English, German)
To sign up candidates also need a previous theological training. If this is not the case, a crash course is available from the Emmanuel community in the summer. This consists of 100 hours of class within the month of August.
